What better way to get your team working together towards an end goal - all while fine-tuning their soft skills and creative thinking processes - than to have them ushered into a dark room, lock the door behind them and insist they work together to flee their... Escape Room!

Unlike traditional team building activities and corporate events (think your family-friendly Adventure World picnic, a personality workshop, Friday afternoon drinks at The Royal, or a "motivational speaker"... *yawn*), escape rooms provide an adrenaline pumping hour of brain-teasing activity that your team members will actually be excited about!

Best of all, however, escape rooms promote a whole range of soft skills that can be directly applied in the workplace come Monday morning! For Perth-based organisations of four to to 400+ staff, our escape room sessions are designed to bring out the very best in your team.

But how does an escape room setting work for team building? It's quite simple really.

Choose a location, our site or yours. Book your team building event for 4 to 400+ staff at our Northbridge escape centre, or we can come to you with The President's Briefcase and transform your space (warehouse, boardroom, office or retail space) into an escape room experience.

We'll lock away your team. In teams of between 2 and 10 people depending on the chosen escapes, we'll provide your team an introduction to the escape room process before we close the door on them and turn the key... and being able to run multiple sessions simultaneously, we can have up to 100 of your staff locked away per hour.

They work as a team to escape. As soon as the countdown begins, your team will need to employ their teamwork, problem solving, time management and communication skills to find the clues & solve the puzzles that will allow their escape.

Escape rooms by their very nature force the escapers to apply their soft skills in a team setting to creatively solve the challenges presented to them if they’re to escape. But what are those soft skills, and how could they be relevant to your organisation?

Time Management. Our escape rooms excel at putting your team under time pressure. This is when personalities are the most visible, and most vulnerable. You will witness time management skills either emerge or evaporate. You will learn more about your team in the last 5 minutes of our escape rooms than you could in any conventional 5-hour team building exercise.

Teamwork. Solving the challenges of an escape room requires impeccable teamwork. Good or bad, you’ll find out which of your colleagues are lone wolves, and which are part of the pack. Can they remain calm under pressure, or will they show signs of stress? Will they realise everyone has different strengths that add to the overall success of the team?

Problem Solving & Critical Thinking. Overcoming complex hurdles with well honed problem solving skills is a key challenge in the workplace, just as it is an escape room! Our rooms force your team to switch gears and to think through problems or puzzles like never before, to don their 'creative thinking caps’ and brainstorm solutions to the clues they are presented.

Communication. Teams play out a fully immersive themed scenario in which they must communicate over a variety of distractions: the chaos of the unknown, and a time crunch. “Active communication” will test the boundaries of each player's personality. You’ll learn which of your team are wall flowers, and which jump in and exhibit winning team skills to get the job done within the time limit.

Leadership & Delegation. Our escape rooms will draw out your colleagues' natural abilities to plan, delegate, motivate and execute. Who will take the lead to direct the group or assign tasks? Watch as teammates automatically fall into their natural roles and perform according to their natural strengths to beat the clock and win the day!

Logical Reasoning. Not everyone can logic their way through a problem – much less in a busy, distracting group environment. Regardless of the difficulty of the escape room, our puzzles are a particularly good way to hone logical-reasoning skills. Best of all, your team will be forced to adopt a collaborative approach to structural thinking!

So... why team build in an escape room?
  1. This fun activity promotes teamwork and cooperation
  2. Flexes your team's lateral thinking muscles
  3. Allows emerging leaders to rise to the top
  4. Allows for healthy competition amongst teams
  5. It’s a super fun way to get your team out of the office!

The festive season is very nearly upon us, and if our end-of-year event bookings are any indication, it’s going to be a crazy busy one at Escape This! The holidays are all about spending time with the people closest to you – whether that’s family, friends, your sports team, or colleagues – and that usually means parties or functions! While large gatherings and mass events might still be a bit a risky post-COVID, it is more important than ever to engage in activities that keep us connected and engaged… and what better activity to do that than an escape room?! Let’s take a look at some of the reasons that escape rooms are the perfect end-of-year get-together activity. Escape rooms are FUN for all Unlike traditional team building activities and corporate events (think your family-friendly Adventure World picnic, a personality workshop, Friday afternoon drinks at The Royal, or a "motivational speaker"... *yawn*), escape rooms provide an adrenaline pumping hour of brain-teasing activity that your team members will actually be excited about! Escape the 9 to 5 rut Perth’s best rated, most immersive escape rooms really will have you escape reality! For the one hour that you are locked in your room, nothing else matters. You’ve become part of a story and your sole objective is to put on your detective hat and escape the room; all other distractions in your life will have to wait. Forget that excel spreadsheet that’s been driving you crazy, or that tomorrow is bin day – you have a mission to complete! Because of this, escape rooms are a great way to refresh and reset your mind while having a great time. Escape Rooms are a Great Bonding Experience Nowadays, it’s increasingly difficult to fully engage with your friends, family and colleagues. Working from home, social distancing, and tech dependency have all put a screen – electronic or Perspex – between us. Escape rooms provide the perfect environment to undo that... to fully engage with others. Upon walking into your escape room, you and your team are fully immersed in your surroundings. To achieve your objective and escape the room, you must communicate with the people in your group to find clues and solve puzzles. What better way to get your team working together towards an end goal - all while fine-tuning their soft skills and creative thinking processes - than to have them ushered into a dark room, lock the door behind them and insist they work together to flee their... Perth Escape Rooms team building and recruitment
By bernie janes July 25, 2021
We all know the standard interview process: your candidate arrives, you seat them across from you at your desk, you ask them about their professional strengths, their past career challenges, and the motivating factors behind their interest in your company; and you usually get the same well-rehearsed responses which you have to decipher to find the right candidate for your team. But did you know that as many as 46% of new hires will fail within the first 18 months? Research shows that a key reason for this failure is that conventional job interview techniques just don’t tell you enough about your candidates and their soft skillset. Obviously then, conventional hiring techniques just don’t cut it in the contemporary workplace setting , and that’s why recruiters are increasingly turning to ‘outside the box’ methods of getting to better know candidates. And one of these increasing popular tools being applied to the recruitment process is escape rooms. What better way to really get to know your candidates than to have them ushered into a dark room, lock the door behind them and insist they work together to flee their – Escape Room! Because as far as your recruitment process is concerned, how the candidates play the game will tell you if they are team players, appreciate different perspectives, delegate authority and communicate well. So how do escape rooms work in a recruitment setting? At Escape This, we invite talent assessors into the escape room with their candidates to observe the game and take notes from a distance, typically concluding the activity with asking candidates questions about their experience. Escape rooms by their very nature force candidates to apply their soft skills in a team setting to creatively solve the challenges presented to them if they’re to escape. And according research conducted by LinkedIn, 92% of talent professionals say soft skills matter as much as or more than hard skills when they hire , and 80% say they're increasingly important to company success. The soft skills Escape This' escape rooms are designed to test include: Time management Logical reasoning Problem solving Communication & confidence Critical thinking Leadership & delegation Strategy & Strategic thinking Teamwork So, far beyond just the rehearsed responses to questions about how a candidate works in a team environment, applies critical thinking, or demonstrates leadership; our escape rooms allow Perth recruiters to assess these, and many more skills, in practice in a time sensitive environment . Think now how useful that could be in your recruitment process?! To discuss how Escape This and our escape rooms might be useful to your recruitment process, contact us today!
